Unanimously Appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court
Judge Porter was sworn in by the Illinois Supreme Court on November 12, 2021. The High Court unanimously appointed her to the Circuit Court of Cook County - At Large (Countywide) after 27 years of legal experience and service to her community.
Lawyer, Professor, and Judge
As a graduate of Drake Law School, she worked in private practice and public service with the federal government. After leaving the law practice, she joined the law faculty of IIT -Chicago Kent College of Law. She subsequently accepted teaching positions at Southern Illinois University, St. Louis University, and Western State law schools. She is a tenured Professor of Law and published author. Her legal acumen and stellar credentials led her to the bench after being ranked highly qualified/recommended by four Chicago bar associations and qualified/recommended by nine other Chicago bar associations. It was her very first time applying for judicial rankings with the thirteen Chicago bar associations.
A Daughter from Chicago's Englewood Community and Chicago Public Schools (CPS)
A daughter of Englewood, Judge Porter graduated as valedictorian of William A. Hinton elementary school (now Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy of Social Justice) and at the top of her class from Whitney M. Young High School.
An Athlete and Advocate
She is a graduate of Cornell College where she ran indoor track, particularly the 200-meter, and the long and triple jump. While studying for her degree in International Business, she worked as a peer advocate helping new classmates navigate campus life, including social and academic transitions.
